Chapter 167
Charles wrote a message: “Karma is a bitch. Don’t ever think about getting away, Samuel!”
Samuel seethed with anger as he read it and quickly typed back, “Charles, mark my words, you’ll pay for this!”
But as he tapped away on his phone, a notification popped up: “You are no longer friends with the other party.” He’d been blocked!
Fury twisted Samuel’s face as he stared at the screen. One day, he vowed, Charles and Skylar would be groveling at his feet, begging for his forgiveness.
Meanwhile, Skylar was lounging on her bed, managing Amazon orders, when Natalie’s call came through.
“Hey there, trophy wife! What’s got you calling me today?” Skylar greeted, amused.
“My husband’s busy today. I’m alone in this empty villa, feeling lonely and bored. Skye, I’m thinking of having a baby,” Natalie said, caressing her flat belly.
They hadn’t been taking precautions lately, so there might already be a little one on the way. If so, she wouldn’t have much time for idle thoughts.
Skylar was slightly surprised. “Is Jeremy busy even on Saturdays?” She’d assumed Jeremy would be around more often. Speaking of which, Joe hadn’t returned yet either.
“He’s probably caught up in some tough project lately, really dedicated to it. But I don’t know, maybe because I’m always home, I feel like he’s not as attentive as before,” Natalie admitted, her insecurity clear in her voice.
Skylar, always the practical one, suggested, “Why not consider finding some work yourself?”
“I want to, but Jeremy and my mother-in-law won’t allow it. She wants me to take care of Jeremy at home. My own mom isn’t too thrilled about the idea either,” Natalie sighed. “They’re all pushing me to have a baby, and I’m gearing up for it. Maybe we’ll have some good news soon.” Her mom believed having a child would bring fulfillment to every day, and Jeremy had even mentioned wanting three kids in the future.
Skylar could sense that Natalie wasn’t quite herself and asked gently, “Have you talked to Jeremy about it?”
“I’ve been meaning to discuss finding work with him, but he’s been too busy lately. He’s often on business trips. He’s only been home for seven or eight days this month,” Natalie sighed again. She felt like the vibrant woman she once was was slowly turning into someone resentful and directionless.
“Oh, Jeremy’s back! Skye, let’s catch up later!” Natalie quickly hung up and rushed downstairs.
“Honey!” She exclaimed, running into Jeremy’s arms.
Jeremy stiffened slightly when he hugged her, then gently asked, “You haven’t slept yet?”
“I couldn’t. I was waiting for you to be back. We haven’t seen each other for days,” Natalie said, her voice sweet and almost childlike. But suddenly, she froze and sniffed the air, her eyes widening. “Do you have another woman, Jeremy?”
Jeremy’s expression immediately tensed. “What nonsense is this?”
“You smell like a perfume I used to wear. You said you didn’t like it, so I stopped using it. Jeremy, you know I have OCD. I won’t forgive you if you mess around with other women!” Natalie’s voice shook with a mix of anger and hurt, her eyes red.
Jeremy’s eyes darkened as he tried to stay calm. “I had a dinner tonight. Maybe someone wearing that perfume accidentally brushed against me. Nath, you’ve been off lately.”
Natalie’s fiery gaze faltered, and her shoulders slumped. “I’m sorry. I overreacted,” she said softly, her voice filled with regret.
Jeremy sighed with relief and gently placed a hand on her shoulder. “Let’s plan a trip in a few days, just to unwind.”
“Promise this time you won’t bail on me?” Natalie asked, her voice tinged with vulnerability.
On Sunday, Skylar arrived at the restaurant following the address Annie had sent her.
