Chapter 150
Meeting Annie in person, Skylar couldn’t help but notice how much more elegant she seemed in real life.
Maisy, on the other hand, was acutely aware of how her own background and education paled in comparison to Annie’s. This awareness made her feel inferior, and her disheveled state only made her more hesitant to even look at Annie. It was too embarrassing. Not to mention, Annie was the one Joe liked, which stirred a confusing mix of admiration and jealousy within Maisy.
Annie gave Maisy a quick glance before turning her attention to Skylar. Her smile remained, but there was something hidden beneath it that no one could detect.
Annie had already looked into Skylar’s background. She knew Skylar had grown up in the countryside and was the true daughter of the Williams family. Yet, Skylar was not favored by the Williamses, and she was working under Alexander’s team—a prestigious group, not Joe’s secretary.
Annie couldn’t help but wonder: If Skylar wasn’t Joe’s secretary, did that mean she had some other connection with him? Alexander’s team had incredibly strict standards, and not just anyone could get in. Skylar had graduated from university less than two years ago, and she wasn’t even studying in a relevant field. How had she managed to secure a spot there? It seemed hard to believe Joe wasn’t involved in some way.
“Ms. Sullivan, we meet again,” Annie said, breaking the silence.
Skylar smiled and nodded. “Hello, Ms. Silver.”
What luck—meeting the person Joe cared about. Was this mall really that upscale?
“Since we’re here, let’s grab a cup of coffee, if you have time, Ms. Sullivan,” Annie suggested politely.
Skylar smiled again, replying, “Maybe next time. I’m out shopping with my brother today and have to get back to work in half an hour.”
Annie smiled knowingly, pulling out her phone. “We didn’t exchange WhatsApp contacts last time. Let’s add each other now. We can arrange to meet up when you’re free.”
Skylar hesitated. She hadn’t wanted to engage much with Annie, but it would seem rude if she declined. Reluctantly, she agreed to exchange contacts.
After that, Annie left, her elegant figure disappearing into the crowd.
Maisy, still stunned, asked, “Since when did you know Annie? How did you come to know her?”
Annie was clearly beyond their social circle, and Maisy belonged to Joe’s circle. It was baffling that someone from Annie’s circle would treat Skylar so politely.
Skylar shot Maisy a cold glance. “You’re too nosy.”
Before Maisy could retort, Harvey, who had been watching the exchange closely, intervened. “Don’t you dare yell at Skylar again. I’d rather hit you until you get admitted to the hospital than take my college entrance exams!” he shouted, pointing at Maisy.
Harvey had seen with his own eyes how Maisy had bullied Skylar, and now, he wasn’t holding back.
Maisy glared at him. “Harvey! I’m your real sister!”
Harvey didn’t hesitate. “Then leave the Williamses. As long as you come back, I’ll admit you’re my sister. But you can’t have it both ways—enjoying the wealth of the Williamses while looking down on us.”
He took a step closer, his voice seething with anger. “Are we some kind of puppet for you to control? You dumb bitch.”
Maisy’s fury reached its peak. She stomped her foot in frustration. “I’ll complain to your mom right now!”
“Fine by me,” Harvey shot back, not the least bit intimidated.
Unlike the Williamses, his family had their heads screwed on right. He wasn’t afraid of being tattled on.
Skylar, standing quietly beside him, added with sarcasm, “You can deceive the Williamses because you live under the same roof. But outside that family, do you really think you can deceive anyone?”
Harvey nodded, agreeing with his sister. “I only lose my temper in front of shameless people.”
Maisy, who was used to winning arguments, stood there, seething with anger. Usually, someone would speak up for her, but today, nobody was on her side. Even the friend she had agreed to meet hadn’t arrived yet.
